Our first De Stijl print is designed to be hung any way. De Stijl was an avant-garde dutch art movement created in 1917, later called neoplasticism. The Style's body of work was largely created by Piet Mondrian (Artist), Theo van Doesburg (Artist) & Gerrit Rietveld (Designer & Architect) et al. De Stijl is considered abstract and uses visual reduction, asymmetric shapes and the original artworks always came unframed. The artwork was always unframed as it was considered by the artist an extension of our world. De Stijl was a movement which influenced art, design and architecture. De Stijl's creative aesthetic is based upon straight lines, squares, rectangles and primary colours. Basic geometric shapes were used commonly. Its proponents believed much of the physical world was overly complex and deceptive. The artists and designers sought to simplify the (complex) world to its most basic forms and colours (through art & design) that would represent the true nature of it.
